You are doing the first thing: staying engaged and alert. Too many just “change the channel” and leave it to others to sort out. The next thing is to share your concern with your representatives and your friends. Grass roots political movements are irrepressible when they get rolling. Science and facts (regrettably) don’t shift public opinion near as much as a friend’s personal opinion and witness. Talk about it and ask your friends and relatives to talk about it.

I’ve said for years that to me the only real sin is greed. It seems to be a precursor of any “sin” I can identify.
Anything a concerned citizen can do now beyond our letters? The mindset you describe, blinders and all, doesn’t appear to bode well.
