Many leak methane into the atmosphere. The casings are rusting, the bore hole may have unsealed gaps between its walls and the casing.  Old wells are a contingency that no wealthy owner wants. If the owner is gone, insolvent, or bankrupt, then it&#039;s up the the Commonwealth to pay for cleanup and sealing.  Old wells are festering wounds in the earth that weep nasy stuff.]]></description>
